Beemer’s Volunteer Fire Department made use of a perfect day Sunday for a practice burn. Firemen set an hold house on fire at the farm place of the late Marcella Belling, located on County Road 15, about 3.5 miles from Beemer. Basic fire practice, including entering a burning house, was conducted during the controlled burn.

Seventy-seven years ago Eddie Doescher took a chance and sold the only vehicle he owned and bought a truck. It marked the beginning of Doescher Transfer Company, located in Beemer.
Doescher’s family acknowledges that his initial investment proved to be a good one.

Lance Parsons searched for several years to find where his father was buried. He had lost contact with him through the years and knew he had died.
At about the same time as he was searching, Lance was also doing work on a directory for Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point.

It wasn’t by chance, but rather hard work and dedication that Bluejay senior Emily Petz evolved into a star sprinter.
It was also her love for the sport that allowed Petz to place a giant exclamation mark on her Central Catholic track career with four medals in four events at the 2013 state track and field meet held this past weekend at Omaha Burke.

William Wendt - February 20, 2013
William (Bill) Wendt, 86, of Hoskins, passed away Jan. 1, 2013, at Faith Regional Health Services, Norfolk. Funeral services were held at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk on Jan. 5, 2013. Pastor Nathaniel Winkle officiated.He farmed most of his life and also drove a milk truck for several years in the West Point area. Survivors include his wife, Edna; son, Tedd and wife and Tamra and Wally and wife Judy, all of Hoskins and a foster daughter, DeLoris Haase of Newman Grove; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale (Marie) Wendt of Valentine; a brother-in-law, Carl Walter of Norfolk and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Wendt of Plainview.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Hulda Wendt; a foster son-in-law, Darryl Hase; a foster grandson Richard Morris; a great grandson J.C. Callahan; a brother Richard Wendt; two sisters-in-law, Betty Walter and Maxine Hayes; a brother-in-law Jack Hayes and his wife’s parents, L.H. and Helen Krei.
