In celebration of her upcoming 80th birthday, Gwen Lindberg of West Point surprised the attendees of the West Point Community Theatre’s annual meeting last week with the gift of a new studio piano.
“I have played for so many events at the Theatre since Dick and I moved here in 1969. Performing and accompanying others on the piano has always brought me great joy, so I decided I would treat myself and all the pianists to a new piano for my birthday,” Gwen said.
She hopes the piano can be selected and delivered soon.
West Point Community Theatre also welcomed more than 120 new members as a result of its first membership campaign. Mary Lauritzen, secretary and membership chairman, noted that the members sustain the Theatre by providing funds for new programming and events, and helping offset annual operating expenses.
“Our first membership drive exceeded all of our expectations, once again showing the great support that the Theatre has from the community,” Lauritzen said.
Anyone wishing to join the Theatre can call her at 402-380-8273.
The annual meeting featured a light supper, along with various updates of Theatre events and the building project.
Barry Johnson was newly elected to the board of directors for a 3-year term along with re-elected directors Cindy Hugo, Jerry Hugo and Ardie Smith.
Other board members are Vaughn Beed, Randy Davis, Jim Falk, Mary Lauritzen, Patty Schinstock, Veronica Suhr, and George Wimmer.
The next quarterly general meeting is April 30.
