Randy Hagedorn was one of three individuals that the Northeast Community College Board of Governors honored for career success and achievement following graduation.
They were inducted into Northeast’s Hall of Success during a luncheon ceremony at the Lifelong Learning Center.
The Hall of Success is awarded to individuals for achieving significant professional success, exhibiting exemplary citizenship qualities, or making significant contributions to their communities and/or community affairs.
Hagedorn, the son of Bill and Valdean Hagedorn, was raised in West Point. He graduated from Central Catholic H.S. before earning an Associate of Arts degree at Northeast Technical Community College in 1981 and graduating from Dana College in 1984.
At Northeast, Hagedorn played basketball and was awarded the athletic department’s Jim Hall Award and was named to the all-conference team in his sophomore year.
Hagedorn began his work at the Norfolk Family YMCA in 1984, teaching pre-school during his first three years. He then served as youth sports director for five years.
He was promoted to senior director, a position he held for six years.
Hagedorn was named to his present position, Executive Director of the Norfolk Family YMCA, in 1998.
Membership at the YMCA has grown from 5,900 to 8,500, and three major renovation projects have been undertaken under his leadership.
