Educational Service Unit 2, based in Fremont, this year is operating an Independent School designed to provide services for students with behavioral disorder needs.
A number of schools in the ESU 2 service area, including West Point Public Schools, will be sending students to that K-12 program. Prior to this year, WPPS sent its behavior disorder students to Logan View, which no longer offers that program.
Each student’s Individualized Educational Program (IEP) Team within the resident school district determines placement based upon the needs of the student.
ESU 2 Independent School, located south of Fremont on Highway 77, is the former District #11 Platteville School building within the Fremont Public School District.
The program is the most recent addition to services provided by ESU 2. It was developed through a cooperative effort with the 16 public school districts located within the ESU 2 service area.
ESU 2 staff will provide a program encompassing intensive social skills as well as core academic services.
Roni Wobken will be serving as a teacher for ESU 2 Independent School. She had been employed as the teacher in the behavior program at Logan View for the past 14 years.
